Acoustic study and noise measurements for CAF

CAF, Construcciones y Auxiliar de Ferrocarriles, S.A., an important manufacturer of the rail sector has recently worked with Ingenieria para el Control del Ruido (ICR) to carry out an acoustic control and study of the NIR Class 4000 (Northern Ireland Railways) new units.

ICR began working in this project before the building of the train, during the design process, in order to predict the acoustic behavior of the new design. Through a numerical model of airborne sound propagation it was determined that the new units would met the customer’s requirements and the legislation, in this case, the standard TSI Rolling Stock-Noise 2006/66/EC and the british standard.

In order to make sure these goals, ICR advised the manufacturer during all the process and made several noise and vibration measurements and rugosity of the rail.

Once the new train  built, ICR did all the necessary noise measurements to verify that the train had achieve the specified standards, including interior, exterior and cabin noise measurements, and RASTI measurements according to IEC60268-16.

ICR is an Acoustic Engineering resolving problems of noise and vibrations. ICR works for the railway, car, industry, construction and environmental sectors. The company researches (R+D) new methods to solve vibroacous-tic problems. ICR also designs software for quality control and transmis-sion loss and teaches acoustics to private companies and official colleges.
